I would say that the best way to install CentOS is with the Minimal install and yum groups afterwards. It requires a unique package list to only include items needed from the installer. It takes a bunch of extra work / testing to develop the DVD install ISO. which are Everything, Minimal, NetInstall. It's also a faster install, since it's reading everything from the single iso file, not seven.Ĭonsider awarding points for "helpful" and/or "correct" answers.Currently all the Alternative arches get the same ISOs. It simply makes more sense to download the dvd iso since you don't need to worry about changing iso files during the install, or having multiple cd/dvd virtual drives connected to a single VM. Once the installer went past three or four cd iso files, I opted to grab the DVD iso. I also typically download OS iso files at home, so that I don't need to worry about sucking up the bandwidth at the office, and I don't need to worry about a firewall rule blocking me from getting the files. Obviously your connection speed will dictate how long it takes to download the file. Locate a mirror that appears to be closer to where you are (in the world/country) and use that to start off with. Not only do you get everything you need in one iso file, but it's easier to manage on the datastore (where you keep OS iso files). I always use the DVD iso file (download via bittorrent client).
